The Diversity Visa Lottery is free to enter.

There are probably hundreds of companies that try to serve as middlemen in the process, charging people fees to %26quot;help%26quot; them enter. But I have issued hundreds of these visas and never have met anyone who won the Lottery who used one of these companies. In my opinion, most of them are scams; they take your money and do nothing. Use ONLY a .gov site for US visa information.

You can enter the Lottery in October 2007 for a 2009 visa. Here is the information from last year:

If someone is asking you for payment, then you aren%26#039;t dealing directly with the US government, because there is no fee to enter the DV lottery. Either you are dealing with a private service that promises to do the paperwork for you for a fee, for something you could do for free yourself, or you are dealing with some fraudulent Internet site. There are quite a few illegitimate sites out there pretending to have something to do with the DV lottery, and just taking your money. Some of them request fees that top $1,000. Since people who enter the lottery don%26#039;t get notices when they fail to win, how would you even know if this site even bothered to enter you? When you see something like that, drop it as fast as you can. Go to the site my friend recommended and save your money for things that aren%26#039;t free, like maybe a nice cold beer on a hot summer day. At least that way, you know you%26#039;re getting something good in return for your money.
