I don%26#039;t use them to extreme ( but I have in the past)--just can%26#039;t give them up entirely (fear of emergency). And then they creep up. I only have two major credit cards and my plan is always to pay them off entirely each mo., but I never do. This makes me feel weak and stupid.

You need financial discipline. Plain and simple.
First - Immediately pay them off in full.
Second - Cut up one of the credit cards but keep the account open. (it helps your credit rating)
Third - You can use your remaining credit card but only purchase what you %26quot;need%26quot; and spend no more than your income.
Don%26#039;t let the credit card companies make money off of you! Pay your bills on time and the credit card companies will never get a dime!
Don%26#039;t listen to the guy that says %26quot;you don%26#039;t need a credit card.%26quot; You need to establish a good credit card history so you can get great rates on a home loan. Its important!

Do not carry them with you. Or keep one with you but keep it in an envelope sealed with duct tape so you can%26#039;t just whip it out whenever the mood strikes you.
Or when you charge something, write a check to your credit card company for that amount and send it in immediately. When you see your checkbook balance going down, you will think twice before spending.
