A few of my husband%26#039;s creditors call probably 15 times per day. Sometimes I%26#039;ll talk to them, they get nasty when I explain the situation and still keep calling and calling and calling. Isn%26#039;t that considered harassment? He%26#039;s got 3-4 that do this, so yes, my phone rings off the hook from 8:00 am -9:00 pm. Is there anything I can do short of giving them all of our money and not paying our house payment so I can get these darn credit cards to leave us in peace for a day????!!!!!
My husband and I got behind on some credit cards and plan on paying them soon, problem w/ them calling...?
You have a right to tell the creditors to not contact you by phone anymore only by mail. If they continue they can get sued. Then send them letters asking if they can reduce the interest rate. A lot of companies will do that but don%26#039;t get discouraged if some don%26#039;t. Go to creditinfocenter.com they have great advice. I used a lot of thier ideas and it helped me so much to get back on track and work on my credit score. Good luck...

Do you have caller ID? If so, don閳ユ獩 answer the phone unless you recognize the caller. Turn off your ringer. If you have an answering machine/voicemail screen your calls.

If you%26#039;re getting those calls, the accounts have already been sold to collection agencies.

My mom is a single mother, and she gets behind a lot since we struggle. To make things lighter on her and to make her laugh, every time they call, either my mom has died, there calling a Chinese restaurant, they have woken up a bitchy old lady, a Chinese lady named Ms Swan answers, or Borat answers the phone.

You can add your telephone number to the national do not call list and that may help a bit. You can also register a complaint via the online web form at the below link !

Until you make payments, they will keep bugging you.

Caller ID can help to an extent but a lot of those calls come from private numbers so you don%26#039;t really know who is calling. (i.e. anyone with an unlisted number - friends?) Unfortunately, the creditors can call you as often as they want until you either set up a payment plan, make their minimum payment or pay them off. Once you do, I would start canceling the credit cards.
The %26quot;Do Not Call%26quot; national registry only applies to those trying to sell you something and not to creditors.

Best thing to do is to stop being your husband%26#039;s shield and have him talk to them to deal with HIS debt. That%26#039;s what they want and they%26#039;ll likely discuss some sort of payment arrangements and not ask for the full amount due. Just discussing arrangements with them helps. 15 times per day is certainly grounds for a harassment complaint. Just keep records of the calls coz the creditors certainly won%26#039;t. I wouldnt%26#039; put up with that.
But just for a little revenge and to annoy the callers, ask them to hold and just leave them on hold for a while, come back and say it%26#039;ll just be another minute and repeat, do this until he gives up. Chances are, he has other calls to make and goals to meet and keeping him/her on the line as long as possible without actually getting anything done prevents him from getting his job done. Not saying avoid responsibility and accountability, but calling 15 tiimes a day everyday isn%26#039;t ethical business practices regardless of who owes what.

It%26#039;s not THEIR fault you were so immature that YOU abused YOUR credit when YOU spent TOO MUCH....
You have 2 choices... move to the middle of a desert somewhere or pay what you owe.

I know money is tight but is there anyway you can go to radio shack and get a tape recorder that hooks up to your phone. When they call...
Azzholes: Is so and so home
You: this call is being recorded. Who is this (they say who they are) Please do not make futher contact with us via phone and I am requesting that futher contact from your company to us by made by mail. THEN hang up!
****
If they continue to call you now you have proof that they are harrassing you! SUE THEM use the money you win to pay them off

Please do not let the comments of the poster above upset you!
She does not know you or your husband from a can of paint.
Debt in america is a way of life. Everyone owes everyone something (mortgages, car notes etc). Losing a job can be hard for your husband. I am glad he as a wife like you that is in for the long haul. The last thing that he needs is to have to deal with them at a time where he is feeling pretty bad. Tell him to hang in there and things will get better.
Best wishes.
And remember your debt does not define you or him.

Even if you pay a small amount towards your debt every couple of weeks, that will go a long ways towards showing that you are serious about fulfilling your obligation. Good luck...

Hi. Sorry to hear about ure husbands.. Everything is going to work out if you keep ure heads up. U say you have 3-4 credit cards after ure husband lost his job its going to be hard to juggle of diffferent payments. This is probably the best move you can make at this time. Get a debt consolidation loan and payoff all ure credit cards and make it all one monthly payment at a lower rate. With that isnt not as confusing and you save thousands in interest payments. Those credits will start to jack their rates and ones it gets to 20% and up its going to be hard to get out. SO look for a consolidation loan or personal loan. VIP Credit one of my website sponsor off Guaranteed Loans. Maybe look into it. Its going to be alot cheaper to go that way. Good luck i hope everythign works out for you.
