Can my wages be garnished by Visa or other credit cards that I am not paying? I am in debt $100k, fr

I make $50k a year now, and I incurred $50k in student loan debt along with another $50k in credit cards... I stopped paying my cards about 19 months ago, collection agencies call my mother, grandparents, and work.. Never my cell phone though, that is my only phone. I am wondering if I am risking having my wages garnished? I work for local government, I heard that Federal employees are less likely to have wages garnished , due to red-tape and admistrative expenses. Would this hold true for a County employee? I am not sure what method would be the best for me to clear up my debt. I want to buy a house before I am 30, I am currently 25. Any suggestions are welcomed, thanks!

Can my wages be garnished by Visa or other credit cards that I am not paying? I am in debt $100k, from colleg

Pay your debt - You got your education and it wasn%26#039;t the loan companies %26amp; credit cards responsibility to put you through college. It wasn%26#039;t a scholarship - it was LOANS. Now that you got your education you are making good money. Pay that debt off. it will take you years to do so - but do it. Be a person of good character.

Pay off as much of the credit card balances as you can and focus on the college loans as well. You will do it. I am serious in saying it will take you probably over 10 years to do so - but you CAN do it.

Negotiate with them on an amount you can realistically pay each month. DON%26#039;T go out and furnish your home and start living %26quot;high on the hog%26quot; just because you are out of college making some money now. You are an adult and should act like one. Pay the debt - it%26#039;s yours - and it%26#039;s only right.

If you want to buy a house, you can%26#039;t have bad credit. Each of the cards you did not pay are reporting you as R9 (charged off to a collection agancy) more than likely. A lender wants to see a good credit history. Keep that in mind. So start answering the phone, making payments and also start paying on the student loans that will never go away (read the law on that one). If the credit companies get a judgement on you, that will stay on your credit report for ten years, more if they renew the judgement. Just because you work somewhere that you are safe from wage garnishments does not make you untouchable. Assets can be seized...like a bank account. A county employee wages can be garnished I think only govt and Indian jobs, like for a reservation. A heads up on the student lonas. A loan for 8 thousand dollars can end up being a judgement for 23 thousand with interest, attorney fees adn all that. The loan was not a gift.

It is hard to pay off student loans when you begin at a salary you can barely live on, however they are not going ot go away, no one is going to forgive them unless you are considered totally unable to work, like had both your arms cut off and have one bad leg, blind in both eyes. You may need to get a night job....take care and good luck. You can get through it.

I am a collection attorney in California. A creditor cannot garnish your wages without first suing you and obtaining a judgment. Once they obtain a judgment, the wage garnishment procedure is not that difficult to initiate and your status as a County employee won%26#039;t help you.

You have quite a bit of debt and you won%26#039;t be able to purchase a home without better credit and/or a substantial downpayment. You might consider bankruptcy to get rid of the credit card debt and making payment arrangements for the student loan debt.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under

Have you ever stand in a long line up at the cash register only to see some idiots in front of you insisting on using their debit and credit cards on small things under $10 or $5 like a pack of gum or a bottle of water. Each person doing this probably takes another 3-5 mins to the line up. I can understand if you are buying big ticket items but to use cards to buy a pack of gum, come on! There should be an express check out line for those paying cash, afterall the merchants make an additional 4-5% because they don%26#039;t pay commission to the credit card companies.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I get paid to keep the customer happy and if it means taking a whole 30 seconds longer for them to use a credit/debit card than so be it.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Yeah it sucks, but hey it%26#039;s happened to me before too.

Sometimes we aren%26#039;t all perfect, and we have no cash on us, so we have to use debit.

Contrary to what you, those people aren%26#039;t arrogant jerks, they just don%26#039;t have the cash on them so they have to use debit.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I find it annoying that some places require me to use cash, and then hand me big piles of near worthless metal I%26#039;m supposed to haul around with me everywhere.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Not annoying at all. I do it all the time and get those credit card miles. Because I do that, I take some very sweet vacations several times a year all over the world!

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

No way.

I never carry cash anymore, so I purchase everything with my debit card.

3-5 minutes for each person??!!

That is outwageous.

It should take no more than 30 seconds more than paying with cash, unless the places you are complaining about still have those ancient things that are used to make carbon copies of each card.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

No I don%26#039;t find it annoying, only people in a rush do. I try not to carry a lot of cash on me because well I rather get robbed and have them take my debit card to where I can just cancel the account then to have cash on me to where they get away with it and I lose it all. Some people rather just carry cards, that way its easy to track what you take out of the account. Maybe you need to loosen up your schedule if you are in a rush and go to the store at a different time?

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I never use cash. I ALWAYS use my card, even for a 25 cent piece of candy. The stores that don%26#039;t make money on those transactions do fine in everything else they sell. Their owners tend to be doing very well financially. I%26#039;m not too worried about it. If everyone used check cards, there wouldn%26#039;t be a need for money, loose change, PENNIES (which I detest), and cashiers that can count. Life would be better.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

It is up to the merchant to put in an express lane. The consomer is well in his rights to use these methods of payments

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

nope i dont find it annoying.. sometimes some of us dont have cash on us.. and the fact that we do have credit/debit cards makes it convenient.. they do have places where they have checkouts that are cash only... maybe u should shop there and you%26#039;ll be a happier shopper..

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I don`t understand either. No matter what the price of a purchase your account will still be debited a service charge. Keep some cash on you all the time for things like this, it`s cheaper and faster.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

It can be a little annoying if you%26#039;re in a hurry. But this is why credit card companies are coming up with ways to allow you to just swipe your card and go if your purchase is under $25.00. It hasn%26#039;t happened yet, but it is in the works.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

yes, but what I find WORSE is when they write a check for

the small items.

That even takes longer.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Lots of people don%26#039;t carry much cash, and typically ATM transactions take around 20-30 seconds, not 3-5 minutes.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Actually in my opinion it is quicker most of the time. Cashiers nowadays have a hard time counting money and with a debit card or credit card they don%26#039;t need to do that.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

If we really, really try we can always find something wrong with somebody.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

It does not annoy me but amaze me. A lot of supermarkets have express check out lines for cash only and also for self check out too.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I agree, That sucks. What is even worst is paying with a CHECK. I had people in front me paying a 4/5 buck purchase with a personal check. Now that takes 10 minuts to process....sic...sic...sic

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I use my debit/credit card for just about everything. Especially now since my bank started a new program that gives me 5% interest on my checking account if I use my debit card 15 times a month as a credit card. I pay no additional fees for using it. Sounds like a win-win situation for me.

Also if the stores you frequent take 3-5 minutes per person for debit/credit cards to be processed than you should think about switching to a different store. The stores I use mine at do not take that long at all.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

If it%26#039;s taking a long time for people to pay with their cards - whatever type - it%26#039;s not their fault; it%26#039;s the vendor%26#039;s fault. If you pay attention, you%26#039;ll note that there are places where you swipe your debit card, punch in your PIN, and the reciept pops out right away. That%26#039;s because they have a decent network connection and credit service. Other places, you%26#039;ll swipe your card, and *actually hear the modem dialing up*.

In fact, it%26#039;s faster when I pay for my coke and donut at the local convenience store with my debit card than when the guy in front of me pays for his with a $20 bill and then spends five minutes putting the change in one pocket and the bills in his money clip.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Actually, I used to be a cashier, and it takes about the same amount of time, unless something is wrong with the debit/credit card machine (which is rare, but it does happen).

Loads of people don%26#039;t carry cash on them anymore. I don%26#039;t blame them. I must be one of the very very few that still don%26#039;t have a debit or credit card.

If you are in that much of a rush, you should have given yourself more time. Why do people become annoyed standing in line? It%26#039;s something in life we all deal with, and making huffing and puffing noises, as well as muttering under your breath distracts the cashier, and irritates other people for no good reason.

What;s more irritating, so to speak, to me, is when I was a cashier and people brought their WIC items to the express line. Now THAT takes time. But, you just deal with it. There are more important things in life to worry about that an extra 3 minutes of your time.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Not really because not everyone has cash on them and if not near your atm with your bank, you get CHARGED$1=$2 JUST TO GET MONEY, PLUS SOMETIMES THE MIN. IS $20.00

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I very seldom have cash on me anymore. I don%26#039;t see where it takes an extra 3 to 5 minutes, it takes maybe a few seconds. I have never paid a fee for using my debit card. What annoys me is people who are paying by check and don%26#039;t have anything prepared or paying by cash and can%26#039;t find their money or left it in the car.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I dont carry ANY cash just my credit card. I%26#039;ve charged it for as low as 50 cents. forget the $5..............some people think I%26#039;m nuts, but it%26#039;s better than getting mugged for cash and my credit card isnt signed in the back so they always ask for ID.

I just love it. I dont know what I would do without it. Especially for all those 99 cent purchases at taco bell :)

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

I%26#039;m sorry I would have to agree with the majority...I NEVER carry cash and if I do...its very little. As a person who has had their purse stolen before...as a policy, I just do not carry cash...when someone steals your stuff, you can%26#039;t get that cash back...its gone...but if they spend on your credit or debit card, you can get that back in FULL...so I would rather err on the side of caution then end up with all my money stolen. And it really doesn%26#039;t take that much longer...what about all those people paying with stuff in change that spend half an hour at the register counting out pennies, dimes and nickels...if they just had their card, they wouldn%26#039;t have to carry around the entire contents of their childhood piggy bank intheir pocket...it can really go either way if you take the time to think about. and implus...money is full of germs and BACTERIA...no thanks!

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

On the contrary..

I never carry cash at all.. I never %26#039;lose%26#039; a twenty or am quick changed by a slick cashier.. everything I spend using my debit/credit is tracked.. I have a record of virtually every penny I spend..

And as a quick service restauranteer, I prefer credit cards and debit cards because it%26#039;s actually faster than cash and that elderly person who spends time digging thru their purse for exact change.. THAT drives me nuts.. Yes, I do pay commission, but I more than make up for it in the ability to push customers thru my restaurant faster.. since we have used credit cards for our business.. we average, during a peak lunch, getting about 10 to 15 more customers thru each hour.. and customer counts are up more than 15% over five years ago.. I make more money, can pay more wages, and hire one or two more employees, and part of that is the speeding up process credit and debit cards allow..

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Here in the UK most supermarkets have check outs for 10 items or less, and some have a cash only checkout...been caught out with those before now as the sign is usually way above my head and I never think to look up there....

I always pay with a credit card because the housekeeping money is put into my savings account at the start of the month. The credit card bill is settled in full a day or two after the statement arrives. That way I am not charged any interest on useage of the card, but I am earning interest on the money being kept in my savings account....make your cards work for you not the banks..

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Idiot here! Went to the gym the other day with a friend as a guest, and they had some BS $2 charge that annoyed my friend, so instead of whipping out a couple of washingtons, he gave the guy a credit card. This totally annoyed the merchant! He actually asked if we had cash instead, which we did, and told him that we had cash, but were using the card. When asked why my friend just said %26quot;welcome to the 20th (sarcastic) century%26quot;.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

not really. i only use debit. i find when i have cash in my wallet, i spend it faster. you should complain to the stores you shop at because they should have express lines. it takes the same time for the cashier to count out change as swiping the card and entering a 4 digit pin number.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Get real some of these yuppies use them to purchase gum....

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

Sometime carrying only debit and credit cards for safety reason may not be so safe after all. I read in the newspaper in Mexico, muggers are taking revenge on people who carry no cash by forcing them to eat dog sh*t. In China, mugger stabs their victim when they don%26#039;t get cash. The bills there are mostly in red, so the saying goes %26quot;muggers are determine to see red... one way or another. So I always carry some bills around in case. Better to lose your case then get some psycho criminal angry. You never know what they may do.

Do you find it annoying that some people insist on using credit and debit cards to pay things under $5?

no because some peepz have a hard time keeping cash. i think check writers r the worst. i agree with the cash line.

What happens if you really can't pay your credit cards off anymore?

It%26#039;s a vicious cycle.. you have a LOT of debt and the more debt you have, the more and more it becomes because of interest rates, the increasing monthly payments, etc. What happens if you literally made a mistake (didn%26#039;t purchase any frivolous things or go on vacations, buy cars, etc.) and you just can%26#039;t pay anymore? You lose your house too, in a short sale or foreclosure because, again, you just made mistake after mistake and buried yourself deeper and deeper. What happens to you? Your business (self employed) also suffered for a long time, and you%26#039;re still not back on your feet. Can people really give you a hard time for just plain bad luck/judgement? The stuff on the cards is literally like.. groceries, sometimes rent, mechanic, insurance, other credit card bills, utitiles, etc.. It%26#039;s just added up over the years. Oh ya, and at least 10k spent on renovations, as well as at least 10k in loans (to a relative that never paid almost any of it back)..

What happens if you really can%26#039;t pay your credit cards off anymore?

Credit card companies do not care what you spent the money on they just want it back.

If you do not pay several bad things will happen.

First your accounts will go to collections and they will hound you day and night.

If you do not pay, they can take you to court and get a judgment, at that point they can attach bank accounts, garnish wages (if your State allows it) and file liens on any property you may own like cars, boats, land and homes.

All of this activity will show on your credit report for 7-years making it very hard to get any other type of loans without massive down payments, paying huge fees and State maximum interest rates.

I would suggest that you contact Consumer Credit Counseling Service at 1-800-388-2227 they are the largest and oldest non profit credit counseling service in the Country, I used them several years ago and was debt free in 36-months.

What happens if you really can%26#039;t pay your credit cards off anymore?

yup, most credit card users will have that to say!

Well, if you really cant pay off your credit card bills anymore, you should promptly contact your credit officers and write in with a proposal of how much you can afford to pay every month. When that happens, the Bank would probably freeze your spending limit and all you have to do is just pay off the monthly sum that uve proposed and been accepted by the bank.

One of my collegue just did that %26amp; she%26#039;s a happy women now!

What happens if you really can%26#039;t pay your credit cards off anymore?

Credit card companies are not compassionate, they want their payment on time and that%26#039;s it. You are responsible for your actions and nobody else, so better get a second job and try to make as much payments as possible if you don%26#039;t want to lose everything. And why did you make renovations when you didn%26#039;t have the money? The worst case will be to go bankrupt but nobody really wants that, so stop renovating.

What happens if you really can%26#039;t pay your credit cards off anymore?

They come after you forever.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now

do I close my other cards accounts or do I leave them open in case of emergencies?

(Also, just found out that one of my cards that I paid off just gave me a positive bump in credit. A REALLY BIG BUMP. What should I do?)

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

I say DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT close them. It will only hurt your score. Just try to not go crazy with the other cards and continue to use the one for emergencies or whatever you need. Congratulations on getting out of debt, I am currently where you were right now. Wishing I did things differently. Everyday I%26#039;m praying for my breakthrough. Overall, just continue to use the one and leave the others. The only other thing is that if you have a card with no activity for too long, sometimes they will cancel you. So every now and then charge something small and pay the entire balance with the invoice comes.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

closing your accounts will not help your credit. leave them open, but stash them away, or cut them up.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

you need to close the other ones u are goin to be in debt if you keep them open

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

dont close any of them, keep em open and use only in extreme emergencies. this will help your credit the most.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Actually, having less credit available can be harmful to your credit report, so if you can trust yourself NOT to run them up again, leave 1 or 2 open. (You can even cut them up %26amp; not close them.)

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Leave them open but dont use them....one of the measure of your credit is actually howmuch you have available compared to how much you are using.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Leave them open and rarely use them

The reason is this, on your credit, capacity is king. Meaning that it will show all these LOW balances on your credit, and that is good.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

***Well of course they gave you a big bump because they want you to start charging again. You should cancel all the cards before you%26#039;re in debt again. You%26#039;ll only be tempted to use them if you leave them open.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

ya do not listen to that guy that said if u keep them open you will be in debt. i have heard to not close them because it will show against your credit score. so just keep them open and not use them. of you can have one card for bills and the other for gas. or something like that

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Do not close your unused credit cards, closing them will actually damage your credit rating. Just cut them up so you don%26#039;t use them. Paying off your credit cards will give you a bump in your credit score-that%26#039;s great. The best thing you can do now for your credit is to not get into trouble again. Figure out a budget, and try to stick to it, be sure to include a savings plan!

Congratulations.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Realistically the question would be do you need so many credit cards, or do you wish to be free of the bondage of credit cards. If you think a high credit score is the thing in Life, keep them and continue to worship at the altar of the FICO Score. I you truly want to be free in life, and be free of debt. Chop them up, close them out, and pay cash.

As for emergencies...a good cash emergency fund works wonders. $1000 to start with, then when you are debt free, go for 3-6 months of expences as your emergency fund

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

I would keep just 1-2 cards, and close the rest. If a card has an annual fee, and you%26#039;re not using it, why keep it? Ideally, you only keep the card(s) with no annual fee, a low interest rate, and a high credit limit.

Don%26#039;t feel that you have to be loyal to the one that gave your credit rating a bump. It%26#039;s more likely that it occurred because you paid off several of them at once, rather than just this one card. It just happened about the time that you paid this one off. The credit card companies are there to make money off of you. They don%26#039;t have you as a customer because they like you, or want you to get a promotion, or because they like your chocolate chip cookies. You%26#039;re just a source of income to them. You don%26#039;t need to feel any loyalty towards them.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Spend the eight dollars to your FICO score. Ask yourself are planning to buy a car or refi a house or get a new house. If the answer is no to all the above just leave another credit card open. 730 or above is a good FICO score.

Received a windfall of cash and paid off all extra credit cards and am working with only 1 card. Now. . .?

Leave them open. they will help increase your credit score. A good credit score will help you get better interest rates when you need a loan. Don%26#039;t go running up the debt again or that big bump will go back down in a hurry.

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

I cannot find one reason people use credit cards instead of just paying cash. It appears to me that it is just playing with snakes, and even incentive cards have high interest rates and outrageous fees.

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

It%26#039;s called convenience. You don%26#039;t have to carry cash, and you can charge all month long and write one big check at the end of the month. Not everybody carries a balance, so the incentive cards are simply free money and discounts.

I put everything on my Discover card, and pay it off each month. I%26#039;ve never paid a penny for the card or for intrest on the card, and every year, I get a check back from them for about $500. So, yep, I%26#039;m going to continue to use my credit card. I can shop online through Discovercard.com and receive another 5-10% off of my purchase (and still use online codes that I%26#039;ve found elsewhere). And, if I choose to get my cashback bonus in the form of a gift card, then I can double that $500 to $1000. Not bad for the convenience of carrying their card around.

You need a credit card to establish a credit records so that you can get bank loans/mortgages in the future.

You need a credit card to rent a car.

You need a credit card to order items online (and if you don%26#039;t receive it and the company says they sent it and too bad for you, then you call the credit card company and they do a chargeback to the vendor unless the vendor can PROVE that you received it - not just that they shipped it).

Besides, with a credit card, I don%26#039;t have to go inside the gas station to pay before I pump gas and have to stand behind all of those people buying lottery tickets.

Need more reasons?

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

If you ever need to obtain a large capital purchase...ie: a house or car or boat... you must have established credit in order to pervent a 30 year savings plan for cash. Credit cards assist all of us in establishing that credit and associated history. A must have for anyone these days. (unfortunatley)

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

Credit cards are a great way to buy things that you can%26#039;t afford. For example, if the engine blows in your car, and you don%26#039;t have two thousand dollars cash, but you really need a ride, charge it. When it comes to making frivolous purchases, credit cards are a definite no-no. But in emergency situations, they can be a life saver.

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

Some people are able to live and never use a credit card at all. Some people find that cards do have benefits.

1. Building credit rating. This is more important to some than others. However, credit card usage over a few years without any problems is very helpful to the credit score. That can affect more than just getting more credit. Some jobs do credit checks nowdays and most apartments do as well.

2. Ease of use. There is no having to go to the bank and pick up cash. For some people, that is a big reason. Of course, that is also how to run into credit problems. Some people who can%26#039;t handle the responsibility of using credit cards are better off using cash.

3. Emergencies. Imagine getting a blowout while travelling and not having any cash on you. Some tow truck places do not even accept cash. They feel it is a liability because that would mean that drivers could now be carrying cash and the crooks would target that. ATMs are not always easy to find and some you just don%26#039;t want to do business with.

4. Theft protection. If your wallet is stolen and it is full of cash then you have lost all of that cash. There is no way to replace it. However, if your wallet is stolen and you had credit cards and you report it then those cards are cancelled and you only have to pay up to $50 of the transactions that were done before you reported it. Now, it is possible that you not realize it for days and they run up a pretty good tab on you but still there is at least some theft protection.

5. Some places will require a credit card in order for you to do business. Many hotels require a credit card. I am not sure if any car rental places accept cash or check. I kind of doubt it. You may not ever go to a hotel or rent a car but there are millions of other people who do. They will need credit cards.

6. Card advantages. Some cards come with really nice perks. Airline miles, cash back programs, savings programs, gift programs, charity donation programs. Many people like to take advantage of these. There are even some banks that give these advantages on debit cards.

7. Accountability. Each month (or every day if you go online and do it) you get a statement of how much you spent and where you spent it at. That is very helpful for some people in working their budgets. To do that with cash requires you to keep receipts. A kind of clumsy easy to mess up technique. Some people are better at the receipt thing than others. Some need a statement that shows every cent that was spent.

Cash is good to have but more and more places are wanting you to pay with either credit or debit. Checks are starting to go out the door. Many places do not accept them. Of those that do, many are just scanning the check and getting the funds electronically (basically making a check a paper debit card.) I heard that Wal-Mart will scan the check and hand it back to you. People need to rely on plastic somewhat today and that will increase more in years to come.

One note about myself. I do not use credit cards and I do not have any credit card debt. However, I do recognize that I have a better control on my budget right now that most people have on theirs. Some people need to have credit cards for some or all of the reasons above. I do not suggest relying on credit cards to make purchases you could not otherwise afford. That is how problems start.

By the way, what is wrong with playing with snakes? I grew up in the country and playing with snakes was a popular pastime for a growing boy.

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

I totally agree with you. I have never had a credit card, do not need a credit card nor do I plan to even get a credit card.

It seems a lot of people use it like FREE money. And then when bill collectors start calling, hmmm, they can%26#039;t pay for anything they have.

You don%26#039;t NEED a credit card to obtain a line of credit for large purchases such as a house or car.

I have both of those with out ever applying or using credit cards.

Can anyone make an argument for the use of credit cards?

There is no good reason except immediate need gratification.

The ATM visa or mastercard has the same protections as a credit card. Anything you can do with a credit card you can do with your debit card so you can rent a hotel, or whatever and not carry a wad of cash.

If you pay cash you don%26#039;t care about a credit score. A credit score just means you have debt.

If you have no credit card bills you probably have money in savings for emergencies.

All those perks credit cards give are better for them than you. Visa has one know where if you buy 7 meals from burger king you get a free meal. Big deal.

You can get a manually underwritten mortgage without a credit score.

If you buy with cash then you probably have a budget so you know exactly where your money is going.

What is the statue of limitation on defaulted credit cards?

is there a limitation on defaulted credit cards

What is the statue of limitation on defaulted credit cards?

The usual minimum time for a past due or a charge off to remain on your credit report is 7 years. However, it is calculated from the last activity on the account. Activity means moved into collections, any payments made. Be very careful. Banks will sell bad debt to debt collectors and the new collector will pursue you to no end. They will also try to get you to make a payment, which then resets your last activity to that date and the delinquency begins anew for another 7 years. Also debt collectors will try to open a %26quot;new account%26quot; which then they say they have the right to pursue for 7 years. They are very tricky. Make sure you keep records and can prove it was the same original debt, and they will have to remove it. What is the statue of limitation on defaulted credit cards?

Statutes of limitation on such debt vary from state to state.

Bear in mind that an expired SOL does NOT wipe out any debt. It merely precludes obtaining a judgment against you for said debt. The debt remains due and payable, and a collection agency can come after you to pay for a very long time.

What is the statue of limitation on defaulted credit cards?

When a statute of limitation expires, it does not mean that the debt goes away, it only means you can use it as a defense to stop collectors from collecting thru the court system. Collectors can still

try to collect thru other methods.

In other words, they can continue to try to collect forever.
